Conclusion

Overall, it was nice not burning my own lap. The aluminum frame protects you from the heat, even if it does seem a bit awkward at first placing this metal thing on your lap. Heat transfer to the aluminum frame minimal so as not to transfer to your own parts. The fans seem to only cool the bottom of the laptop with no benefits to the CPU or internal parts. This might vary depending on the design of the laptop's ventilation system. Ergonomically, it was an improvement for typing with the slope, and it felt quite natural. The only problem is that the default positioning for a laptop may the front ports (volume, headphone, card reader etc) on some laptops.

Pros

  • the frame shields the lap from the direct heat of the laptop
  • twin fans help to cool off the underside of the laptop (where the hard drive and battery happen to be)
  • sloped structure was nicer for typing
  • very stable due to thick aluminum
  • no-brainer setup

Cons

  • a little bit heavy due to the thick aluminum
  • front ports of the laptop could be blocked when in the default position
  • (possible fan guard defect during shipping)
