Final thoughts

After using it extensively for over a week, I found that I grew to liking the features of the Logitech QuickCam for Laptops Deluxe Web camera. The overall function that I wanted was to have a smooth flow of video images going to the recipient of the video conference. The webcam did a good job with it and those viewing me were happy. That is the reason why we buy a webcam: For the recipient to be happy with what they see.

The lack of documentation or instruction on how to use the software was a turning point for me. I had to try all the different buttons and see what they did. Being a very experienced user, I had no problems using it. However, I would be more concerned about the novices that are currently switching their old desktops for laptops. They will find that this webcam difficult and scary to use with the software that it comes with.

Pros

  • The webcam provided a very sharp image of the subject when focused correctly.
  • Easy to install and setup.
  • The webcam was small, compact and complemented the laptop.
  • Neoprene case made is easy to put webcam into laptop case and not have to worry about breakage.
  • Focus ring has smooth feel when adjusting the focus.
  • Lowlight filter very handy to increase the light level around the subject.

Cons

  • Length of cord at times was too short.
  • Having a retractable cord would make it easier for laptop users to put away instead of rolling up the cord.
  • No adjustable base to hold the webcam to the screen chassis limits the amount of users that can use this web camera.
  • Video image moved too slowly at high resolution.
  • No instructions on how to use software.
  • Icons for the primary programs are hidden and too small to see.
  • Video conference programs too prominent as the default screen. No option to remove it from program even if software is already in use.
