HP Pavilion dv1540ca Laptop
Hopefully, no exploding batteries this time!

I hope that battery recall fiasco won't turn people totally away from HP and COMPAQ laptops. They have some pretty cool machines, like the HP Pavillion dv1540ca reviewed at ByteSector.

"The DV1540CA comes with an Intel Pentium M 750 Processor. This chip runs at 1.86 GHz, has a 2MB of L2 cache, and a FSB speed of 533MHz. The laptop comes with 1GB of DDR memory, but can be upgraded to a whopping 2 GB. The RAM isn't the only memory spec that is impressive; the hard drive weighs in at an impressive 100GB.

The screen is 14” in the WXGA (Wide XGA) format. The XGA screen is bright, clear, and has good colour definition, but it is also undoubtedly small. For connectivity, it features a 56K modem, Integrated 10/100BASE-T Ethernet LAN, integrated wireless 802.11b/g, Bluetooth, 1 PMCIA slot, a Firewire port, infrared, and 3 USB 2.0 ports.

The specifications show that the laptop is no slouch, but things like the processor show that it's not meant for gaming, or really serious applications. But it does serve quite well as a portable workstation that efficiently handles program execution, with lots of memory, and some handy multimedia extras."
