![]() ASUS is on with INTEL Core Duo With the launch of Intel's Core Duo at CES, we were intrigued by the promises it made. Initially, at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF), the company changed focus from pure performance to performance-per-watt. We were not exactly sure if it was a serious strategy on Intel's part or whether it was merely a face saving measure, though something told us that Intel was serious. Looking at Intel's roadmaps, we have reasons to believe that it just might be able to pull it off. With a thinner fabrication process, improved cache management and other significant changes to the core, the trend appears to be on Intel's side. In order to test Intel's claims, we secured a Core Duo notebook and put it through its paces to check if Intel was really onto something... As far as the notebook goes, if you can live with the black slateish and boring looks, this notebook is pretty good. It would be even better if you can get yourself the white one, which resembles Apple's iBook quite a bit. The W5F offers the latest features, plus more with Intel's latest technology, so if that's what you are after, make sure you give ASUS' W5F a serious consideration. Even though $2,000 is a hefty price tag for many, do understand that pricing on latest notebooks will be comparatively high because of their latest launch.
