Bluetake BT450Tx Bluetooth Stereo Transmitter for i-PHONO mini Print E-mail

For the most part, the Bluetake BT450Tx Transmitter works very well. I had no problems pairing it with the i-PHONO mini headphones. The transmitter easily fit onto my 4th generation iPod, though instead of sitting straight up on the player, it slants back slightly. The adapter is about the same thickness as the iPod and a bit narrower. Access to the iPod’s hold switch is blocked while the transmitter is attached. When powered on, the transmitter’s status LED blinks blue every few seconds.

Audio quality from the transmitter was very good when the headphones are within a reasonable distance. A big problem Bluetake’s original i-PHONO headphones and transmitter had was that when the transmitter moved around a lot, like it would when its inside your pocket, the audio signal as a tendency to drift and cut out. I am glad to see that issue was addressed with the i-PHONO mini and BT450Tx. The audio signal was strong and consistent even as the transmitter and iPod moved around in my pocket. Outside, I am able to roam almost 18 feet from the transmitter before the music started cutting out.

The AVRCP controls worked really well though they are by no means meant to replace the iPod’s scroll wheel for navigating through the iPod’s interface. Being able to perform simple functions, such as pause, change volume, and skip tracks, from the headphones is really convenient – especially if the iPod is stashed away in a pocket or bag.

On a full charge, the BT450Tx was able to go about seven and a half hours before its status LED started blinking red indicating the battery was low. It lasted another 15 minutes before turning off all together. Charging the transmitter from empty to full took about two and a half hours.
