Palm using a Windows OS? No way!
Palm Treo 700w Smartphone is Windows Powered!

Though not Laptop related, our friend Sal over at XYZ Computing checks out the latest Palm Treo: A conglomeration of work between Verizon, Microsoft and Palm.  Why is this Palm significant?  Because it uses a Windows Mobile Operating System!

"A Windows Mobile smartphone from Palm was one of the Consumer Electronics Show's most highly awaited, but least surprising, products. No matter how feel about a Palm-based mobile PC, the prospect of Microsoft, Palm, and Verizon all teaming up to put out this product is a big deal. There has never been any doubt of the impact which the Treo 700w will have on the mobile communications industry.

Though the Treo line has been doing well using Palm's operating system, the fact that most of the business world is using Microsoft means that the release of a Windows-based smartphone gives Palm access to a much larger part of the corporate market than ever before. Because a device like the 700w is targeted towards professionals this move should be a major boost for Palm, though they have entered themselves into a market which has very tough competition and have risked alienating diehard Palm OS fans. "
